One key feature of Tesseract is how it helps with the implementation and management of a preventative maintenance strategy. This enables our customers to plan ahead and prevent problems from occurring and potentially causing expensive equipment downtime. In many cases, this preventative maintenance schedule is time-based, with maintenance being planned at fixed cycles (e.g. every 6 months). However, did you know that Tesseract also allows you to manage a usage-based strategy?

To enable a usage-based preventative maintenance strategy, you just need to add a meter to any serialised product for collecting whatever type of equipment usage criteria you wish to use. This could be running hours, wash cycles or power downs, for example. As long as a piece of equipment has the ability to record a counter with the current value accessible to be entered into Tesseract, then it has the potential to be used for usage-based preventative maintenance.

You can optionally link usage and time based cycles to provide “whichever comes first” maintenance (e.g. every 6 months or every 3,000 hours). Usage is reset with every visit and you have the ability to use a weighted combination from multiple meters to determine overall usage if you want to combine multiple types of usage to determine when maintenance should occur.

The rise of the IoT means that connected equipment is becoming more common in certain industries, providing the ability for greater automation in the transfer of collected usage data into Tesseract. In the future, this will help companies move to an even more proactive maintenance strategy.
